Category Director

DESCRIPTION OF ROLE

The Category Director plays a critical role in leading the commercial team across our supermarket chain. This crucial position is responsible for driving growth, profitability, and innovation. You will play a key role in shaping the future of our offerings, ensuring we deliver the best possible experience for our customers and exceed market expectations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Ø  Develop and implement a comprehensive commercial strategy for the designated department, aligned with overall company objectives.

Ø  Conduct thorough market research and analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and threats in the food sector.

Ø  Negotiate and manage contracts, trading terms with suppliers, ensuring competitive pricing and high-quality products.

Ø  Work closely with marketing department to develop and execute marketing and promotional activities to drive sales and customer engagement in the department.

Ø  Oversee the operational efficiency of the department, including in-store processes, store merchandise display, inventory management, logistics, and related operating costs.

Ø  Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including suppliers, customers, and internal teams.

Ø  Set and monitor performance targets using key metrics (e.g., sales, profitability, customer satisfaction, market share, basket size, sales participation rate) and report regularly to senior management.

Ø  Stay informed about industry trends and best practices and implement innovative solutions to optimize the department performance.

Ø  Foster a positive and collaborative work environment within the commercial team.

Ø  Make a real impact on the quality and affordability of food for our customers.

 KEY REQUIREMENTS

Ø  Minimum of 10 years of experience in retail with a senior commercial leadership role within the retail or food industry, preferably with a focus on ambient and refrigerated food.

Ø  Proven track record of successfully developing and implementing commercial strategies that drive growth and profitability.

Ø  Strong understanding of the food market dynamics, including sourcing, pricing, and consumer trends.

Ø  Excellent negotiation and relationship management skills.

Ø  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ø  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team.

Ø  Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations governing the food industry.
