Data & AI Communications Manager is responsible for developing and driving the internal and external communications strategy for DFI’s data & AI business unit, in close partnership with the Group Communications team and data & AI leadership. The role ensures clear, consistent and engaging storytelling about data & AI priorities, use cases and innovations across colleagues, customers, partners and media.
This role may be based in Hong Kong or fully remote, with working hours that allow regular collaboration with stakeholders in Hong Kong and the wider region.
The challenge is to:
Strategy, planning & execution
- Develop a cohesive, multi‑channel communications plan for the Data & AI business unit aligned with DFI’s corporate narrative, brand and business strategy.
- Define clear messaging pillars for Data & AI (vision, ethics/safety, innovation, productivity, customer impact) and ensure they are consistently reflected across all content and channels.
- Partner with Group Communications to integrate Data & AI storytelling into corporate, ESG, transformation and leadership communications calendars.
Internal communications
- Work with Data & AI BU leadership and Group Internal Communications to design and deliver internal comms that explain Data & AI strategy, roadmap and key initiatives to DFI colleagues (e.g. town halls, Yammer/Workplace/Teams posts, newsletters, intranet, leader toolkits).
- Work with People & Culture team to make sure that all Data & AI related trainings merge into the wider communication plan and get maximum awareness.
- Translate technical Data & AI topics into simple, relevant narratives for frontline, office and leadership audiences, highlighting business value, risk management and change‑impact.
- Support change communications for Data & AI‑enabled projects (e.g. new tools, workflows, automation) including stakeholder mapping, key messages, FAQs and training comms.
- Track sentiment and feedback from colleagues to refine messaging and engagement tactics.
External communications and positioning
- In partnership with Group External Communications, develop an external narrative that positions DFI’s Data & AI efforts as responsible, customer‑centric and innovation‑led.
- Draft and support delivery of external assets: press releases, Q&As, media briefing materials, website and social content, Data & AI case studies, speeches, talking points and presentation materials for executives.
- Coordinate Data & AI‑related announcements, campaigns and events with Group Comms (e.g. product launches, partnerships, pilots, industry forums).
- Support development of executive thought leadership for Data & AI (e.g. LinkedIn, bylined articles, panel appearances) for key leaders in the Data & AI BU and C‑suite.
- Stakeholder engagement and partnership.
- Act as the primary communications point‑of‑contact between the Data & AI business unit and Group Communications, ensuring strong alignment on strategy, risk and approvals.
- Build effective working relationships with Data & AI product/engineering leads, Data/Technology, HR, Legal, Risk and Business Unit leaders to surface stories and manage issues.
- Provide counsel to Data & AI leaders on how and when to communicate, including message framing, channel selection and timing.
Content creation and channel management
- Develop high‑quality content tailored to different audiences, including narrative documents, FAQs, newsletters, video scripts, decks, talking points, infographics and internal social posts.
- Maintain a Data & AI comms editorial calendar across internal and external channels, ensuring cadence, sequencing and integration with broader DFI campaigns.
- Partner with design, video and digital teams (or external vendors) to bring Data & AI stories to life through engaging multimedia formats.
- Ensure all content is on‑brand, accessible, consistent with Data & AI governance principles and approved through appropriate sign‑off processes.
Governance, risk and measurement.
- Work closely with Legal, Risk, InfoSec and HR to ensure Data & AI communications reflect DFI policies, regulatory requirements and ethical guidelines.
- Prepare holding statements, Q&As and escalation paths for potential Data & AI‑related issues or incidents, in collaboration with the Group issues/crisis team.
- Define KPIs for Data & AI communications (reach, engagement, sentiment, understanding) and provide regular reporting and insights to Data & AI and Group Comms leadership.
- Use insights to refine the comms strategy and share best practices with the wider communications community.
- Coordinate, Prepare and review key presentation material for townhall, management committees or other internal forums.
Do you have experience in corporate communications / transformation communications?
- Minimum 7 years of experience in corporate communications and transformation communications, or related fields.
- Experience in working with technology, AI, data or digital transformation topics in a large matrixed organisation is strongly preferred.
- Proven track record of partnering with senior leaders and cross‑functional teams to shape and execute communication strategies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; additional Asian language(s) a plus but not required.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex or technical topics into clear, compelling and audience‑appropriate messages.
- Strong writing and editing skills across formats (narratives, speeches, FAQs, newsletters, social content, decks).
- Experience in managing both internal and external communications, including some exposure to media or public‑facing campaigns.
- Familiarity with change management or transformation communications is an advantage.
- Proficiency in cross-cultural collaboration and adept at managing diverse time zones; Prior experience in Asia or global organizations is a plus.
- Strategic thinker who can connect Data & AI initiatives to business and corporate narrative.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with confidence working with senior executives and technical experts.
- High level of comfort with ambiguity and fast‑moving projects; ability to operate independently and “roll up sleeves”.
- Strong planning, organization and project‑management skills, with attention to detail and follow‑through.
- Curiosity about Data & AI and its applications in retail and consumer businesses, and a strong commitment to responsible and ethical Data & AI communication.
